In this review for Pro Tools Expert Technical Editor James Ivey takes a look at some of the latest features in the new Universal Audio Apollo Twin MkII. The new Blackface Twin adds quad levels of DSP processing to upgraded mic pres and A/D conversion along with a new monitor section. This is the new benchmark small form factor audio interface.
James concentrates on demonstrating the new monitor section with built-in talk-back mic. These new features not only make the new Twin MkII a fantastic standalone interface, but when combined with other Apollo units form an Apollo expanded system where the MKII Twin becomes the centre section of your virtual console.
The Apollo Twin MkII also has the same stunning Unison mic preamps and converters as the other Blackface Apollo units and you can hear these in a review James and some friends created for the Apollo 8 and 8P.
Since this article was first published the team at Universal Audio have been very busy with their product development. The latest version of the Apollo Twin is the Apollo Twin X which was released alongside the new Apollo X4, a 4 channel version of the Twin format. You can find out all about the Twin X and X4 in the article below or by visiting the Universal Audio website.
