Our recent Poll on Control surfaces and Pro Tools received over 2000 responses. A breakdown of the data can be found below. All figures are percentages of the total responses.
While there are a lot options available and we tried to include everything, the conclusions which can be drawn are:
- In spite of their age and some grumbles from the community on their effectiveness, the Avid Artist Mix and Artist Control remain popular. This is understandable as they are still the most affordable Eucon control surface for Pro Tools.
- There is clearly a lot of potential for a new, affordable control surface, particularly when looking at the number of older control surfaces still in use such as the Command 8, Mackie Control and HIU 002 and 003, there are even people out there still using the CM Labs Motormix.
- The iPad Control App and the App in combination with the Avid Dock are clearly a popular choice, though surprisingly, considering to a user who already has an iPad the app is free, it doesn't dominate the numbers.
- Taken in combination, the numbers for the S6 and S3 match the numbers for the D Command, D Control and C24 combined.
